Old Mogador is a large fishing port founded by the Romans and inhabited by the Portuguese from the 17th century. A typical Portuguese harbor with fine examples of both Moorish and Portuguese art.

It is one of the most important and oldest fishing ports in Morocco, famous for local wood handicrafts, as there is a large plantation of cedar and pine trees nearby. See the Squala century cannons brought from Spain to protect the city.
